3 tbsp. Hoisin sauce
2/3 cups water
3 tbsp. rice vinegar
3 tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. corn starch
3 tbsp. vegetable oil
cloves of garlic
1 small fresh chile
18 oz. cake tofu
5 cups broccoli
1/3 cups dry sherry
red bell pepper, cut in strips
 unsalted peanuts

  1. Combine the sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Before beginning the stir-fry, prepare the vegatables and have all the ingredients at hand.
  2. In a wok or large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of the oil on medium high heat. Add the garlic and chili and stir-fry for just 30 seconds before adding the tofu. Continue to stir-fry for 3 to 4 minutes, until the tofu is lightly browned. Remove the tofu and set aside. Add another tablespoon of the oil to the wok, heat for a few seconds, and then add the broccoli. Stir-fry for a minute and pour into a sherry. Stir-fry for 3 minutes. If the broccoli begins to scorch, add a tablespoon of water. Add the scallions and bell pepper, continue to stir-fry for a minute, and then add the tofu and the sauce. Stir carefully and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 3 or 4 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
  3. Top with peanuts and serve immediately.
