Spritz

Buttery, almond-flavored spritz are probably the best known pressed cookies. You can make spritz in many different shapes, and dress them up with candied fruit, jam or other decorations.

Ingredients

1 cups butter, softened
1/2 cups sugar
2 1/4 cups unbleached white flour
1/2 tsp. salt
egg
1 tsp. almond extract, (or vanilla extract)

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 400 °F (195 °C).
  2. Cream butter and sugar. Blend in remaining ingredients. Do not use self-rising flour in this recipe.
  3. Fill cookie press with 1/4 of dough at a time; form desired shapes on ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake until set but not brown, about 6 to 9 minutes.
