Wentelteefjes #2 (Dutch French toast)
A thrifty Dutch method of turning old bread into a delicious children's breakfast.
|9 slices ||bread, old|
|21 pieces ||eggs|
|300 ml ||milk, lukewarm|
|15 g ||sugar|
|50 g ||butter|
|1 tsp. ||cinnamon|
|1 tsp. ||vanilla extract|
- Beat the eggs with the sugar and vanilla extract (or lemon peel). Add the milk.
- Soak the bread slides in this. Make sure the slices are soaked but do not break. Let drip out on a plate.
- Cook the wentelteefjes in the light brown butter (or hot oil) on both sides until brown.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
