Wentelteefjes #2 (Dutch French toast)

A thrifty Dutch method of turning old bread into a delicious children's breakfast.

Ingredients

9 slices bread, old
21 pieces eggs
300 ml milk, lukewarm
15 g sugar
50 g butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Beat the eggs with the sugar and vanilla extract (or lemon peel). Add the milk.
  2. Soak the bread slides in this. Make sure the slices are soaked but do not break. Let drip out on a plate.
  3. Cook the wentelteefjes in the light brown butter (or hot oil) on both sides until brown.
  4. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
